Internet portals
There are several internet portals selling
even millions of products and using part of their sales
commissions for the compensation of the emissions of the
products. The service appears as free to customer.
The amount used for compensation varies. The
compensation appears to be related to the product based
emissions at least by ClimateCooler.
ClimateCooler
appears to be the major US portal with
Earthmoment, while there are several British portals.
ClimateCooler, Oakland, California, is
internet portal, which markets compensation of product based
emissions. The compension is based from the commissions obtained
from the retailers
www.climatecooler.com
.The portal started 2007 and it estimates to compensate during
2008 emissions of products worth of 600 million USD or the
volume of compensation was estimated as 2.5 million USD.
The project has collaboration with
universities in counting product based emissions and cooperation
with Natural Resource Defense Council, National Defense Council,
National Wildlife Federation, and The Gold Standard.
The founder of the project is Michael
Gelobter and Redefining Progress think tank organization.
Redefining Progress has international patent application
WO2007/079228, directed to green credit cards and shop
solutions.
The project has been funded by William J.

EarthMoment
(http://www.earthmoment.com
) was publishes 22.10.2007. The company behind the idea is a
green publisher Odgen Publications. They indicate 1000 providers
and 15 million products. The portal also supports green shops
and includes personal emission profiling and emission trading
for compensation of other emission.
Donation for offsetting appears to be between
0.5-25 %, (on average about 5.5% from 800 provider list) or
specific sum per product (about 200 providers, on average 15.4
$). The portal indicates that half of the commissions are used
for offsetting.
British portals
GoCarbonFree
(http://shop.gocarbonfree.com)
is a British portal with millions of products. They indicate 5 %
of marketing cost after which , 50 % of income is used for
carbon credits, 25 % invested in own carbon reduction projects
and 25% for business costs. The portal has started 2007 and
indicates compensation of 111 tons of carbon dioxide (April
2008). The compensations are based on Gold Standard and EU
emission trade (less respectable method). The compensation
credits per pound (£) being 2-15 x 100 g appear smaller than in
Earthmoment or ClimateCooler.
